ALPHA PHI PHILANTHROPY

Heart Health Week

The Alpha Phi Foundation empowers women to be generous givers. We raise and award funds for programs that advance leadership development, encourage academic excellence, improve women’s heart health, support sisters in need and educate about the value of philanthropy. Today Alpha Phis continue to support local and national heart health units through Foundation Grants, monetary donations and community service. Cornell Alpha Phi holds philanthropy very close to our hearts, hosting 3 major philanthropic events every year, and participating in other philanthropic events on campus as well. Our philanthropy is centered around the Alpha Phi Foundation, aiding in efforts to support research and education for women's heart health. We're proud to be the recipients of the Alpha Phi Foundation award for Excellence in Philanthropy, raising over $47,000 in the past two years.

Heart Health Weeks is our newest Fall philanthropic event. For an entire week, we focus on spreading awareness around campus about our philanthropic cause: Women's Heart Health. The week is filled with activities open to the Cornell community, tailored to help promote getting educated on heart health issues and ways to keep a healthy heart, such as getting fit, having fun, eating healthy and managing stress! Activities range from a free beginners yoga class to get fit, learning about the importance of heart health over coffee, contests to win a FitBit, engaging with a nutritional speaker, frozen yogurt with 15% of proceeds going to women's heart health, and bowling with friends!

Red Dress Gala

It's simple. Go red. Go red for courage, go red for hope, go red to help find a cure for the #1 killer of women in America. Go red for cardiac care.

Alpha Phis always like getting dressed up, but once a year we put our best red dresses on in support of the Alpha Phi Foundation. Friends, families, and alumnae gather together with our sisters for this philanthropic event, held every spring during Parent's Weekend. The event includes a reception, food, live performances, and a silent auction at an elegant venue. For us, this special occasion, celebrated by Alpha Phi chapters across North America, allows us to share our philanthropic vision with family and friends.

Krista Depew's Memorial Softball Tournament

Our spring softball tournament is dedicated in loving memory of our beloved sister and friend, Krista Depew, who passed away much too soon in May of 2012. Krista was an incredible member of the chapter and the Cornell community. The Delta Chapter celebrates the remembrance of Krista's immortality in our lives by playing her favorite sport: softball. All proceeds from this tournament go toward the National Meningitis Association, in support of spreading awareness about the disease and its prevention.
